 SUMMARY:
To serve as an engineer aboard vessel.  The Tug Boat Engineer is responsible for the repair and maintenance of various ship systems, and must be skilled in troubleshooting and fixing mechanical failures.
Responsibilities 
  • Reporting any unsafe conditions or vessel hazards and provide opportunities to resolve or improve.
  • Perform inspections of vessels for repair & maintenance according to proper standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Vessel Captain and Crew to schedule and perform any general and planned maintenance
  • Communicate with the Captain and Crew regarding any scheduled maintenance or other unusual conditions which may adversely affect the vessel or its operating schedule.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance preformed using company equipment database.
  • Monthly fuel and lube oil reporting 
  • Lead the use and transfer of fuel oil, lube oil, waste oil and oily waste, and potable and ballast water.
  •  Monitor the quality and condition of engineering supplies 
  • Maintain inventories of adequate spare parts and tools. 
  • Working on deck, including ship docking and tug mooring operations. 
  • Acting as a look out
  •  Other duties as designated by the captain
Qualifications and requirements 
  • Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC). 
  • Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). 
  • 5 years' experience within the industry. 
  • Pre-Employment Drug Screening. 
  • USCG engineering license. 
  • Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit and Catapillar Engines
Physical Demands 
  • Work safely in a marine setting.
  • Walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time. 
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently crouch or stoop. 
  • Climb/descend stairs and ladders. 
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 lbs. 
  • Occasionally enter and work in enclosed spaces. 
  • Withstand exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, rain, cold and or/humidity.
